Our Services

In order to ensure the highest possible standards, we have chosen to specialise in legal translation. Furthermore, we only offer translations between English and German. We have experience, in particular, in the following areas:

Media law, contract law, competition law, industrial property law, patent law, trademark law, copyright law, labour law, arbitration procedures, bank and investment products, mergers and acquisitions.

In addition, we are in a position to translate across other fields and often do so for our existing clients. In such cases we discuss the translation at hand with the client and where necessary we would avail ourselves of the services of a translator with the relevant expertise (e.g. technical, scientific, medical texts containing an abundance of specific terminology).

In any case, we are happy to help and you can rely on Erichsen & Partner to ensure you receive personal and competent advice in and around translation.

Translation [English-German / German-English]

When translating texts, we take into account layout, formatting, readability, style, repetition of words, etc. to produce accurate and polished copy.
All our translations are proofread by a second pair of eyes prior to delivery to the client. We believe this is important, as a "double check" to ensure our high standards are maintained. Prices are calculated per line, at 55 characters per line, based on the translated document.

Certified translation [English-German / German-English]

Some official documents such as witness statements, official documents, court judgments, etc. require certification through a court-certified translator. In Germany the regional courts are responsible for the administration and registration of translators. If the German translation of a foreign document is intended for use at a German authority, it usually requires the signature and stamp of the translator, for validation purposes. The English translation of a German document for a foreign authority requires a so-called apostille (accelerated procedure amongst members of the Hague Convention), issued by the regional court. Translated documents, which are required for use in states, which are not members of the Hague Convention, require authentication from the regional court prior to final legalisation by the consulate of the destination country.

Apostille Service

For urgent translations of official documents to be used abroad and therefore require an apostille (higher level authentication), we are happy to make the necessary arrangements at the Landgericht (the regional court). We take the translation directly to the relevant office, which means it is usually ready for collection the following day. We can then send it on to you, or the intended recipient (relevant consulate / embassy etc.) as required. In this way you can save up to a week's time.

Proofreading / Copy-editing

Proofreading is the examination of texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation; copy-editing includes this as well as the checking of style and readability, whilst also ensuring the text is logical and coherent. Proofreading and copy-editing are charged at hourly rates.

Urgent Work

From time to time clients require work completing on an urgent basis. We work hard to fulfil your requirements and keep to agreed deadlines.

During the quote stage we will advise you whether it is possible to meet your required deadline, whether that will lead to an urgency surcharge, and will work with you to resolve possible issues. Urgency is reflected in our rates, generally a surcharge is levied on jobs requiring a 24 hour turnaround, or where it would require work outside of normal working hours.
